Zeitgeist - The spirit of now

Flora’s Fringe

We’ve been very busy with things relating to the Arts Festival at Zeitgeist this month.

8439We had an especially busy weekend when the Handmade Parade was on -we did the hair of a group of girls dancing as Icarus in the parade. It was very exciting hair, looking frazzled and burnt as if they’d been near the sun. They looked lovely floating along with the everybody, and having never been to see the parade before, I was amazed at how many people joined in! It was brilliant to see everybody working together and getting involved, there was a real festival feel around the town.

Thank you to Chris Ratcliffe of the Hebden Bridge Web for the photo.

Whilst we were doing the girls’ hair, we had photographers Justin and Jack from Manchester exhibiting their work in a pop up shop upstairs. There were some great prints, and it was great to see places we know locally when looking through their work. If you missed the pop up shop but still want to check out some of their photos, you can visit their websites: jags-photography.co.uk (Justin) and jackhenriques.co.uk (Jack).

We’ve been continuing in the spirit of the Arts Festival this past weekend, with yet another pop up shop, this time from Talya Baldwin, a local illustrator. She had also set up a gallery of her work, selling prints, cushions and cards to name a few, not to mention free cake! Don’t panic if you missed her though, she’s back by popular demand this weekend. You can also check out her work on her website: talyabaldwin.co.uk.

Last but not least, if you’re walking past make sure you take a look in our window at the artwork we have up that’s a part of the WI’s art trail.

Make sure to look out for the next blog, as each month is getting busier and more exciting than the last!
