Zeitgeist - The spirit of now

Hello and here we are again with our latest news from Zeitgeist hair and hopefully some recipes that will have you searching for your cake tins and putting on your aprons!

As I am sure you will be aware, the plan is that Zeitgeist will be open from the 4th July and our booking system is open to enable you to book online. In order to ensure that we can make sure our workstations have a vigorous clean before and after you visit, we are allowing extra time for your hair appointment. So, when you book online, you will notice that you will make bookings at quarter two and quarter past the hour, whereas previously it has been on the hour and half past. If you are having a haircut or a tint make sure that you pay for parking that takes you up to two hours rather than one; as we are now allowing 1 hour and 15 minutes for these appointments. If you are having highlights, please allow 2 hours and 15 minutes for your appointment and pay for your parking accordingly. Obviously, in our need to social distance as much as possible, we ask that you arrive in the salon to be in time for your appointment, but no sooner. If we are running behind at all, we will make sure we give you a call to let you know when to come to the salon. In a positive light, this hopefully will give you more time to focus on you; bring along that favourite book you want to read or that knitting you want to finish or that meditation you always wanted to start; so if you need to wait a few extra minutes in your car or in the sunshine in the square you will be occupied doing something you enjoy!

We are also aware you may be contemplating a big hair change or your hair may now be the longest it has been for a VERY long time and as a result of this, you may need even more time for your appointment. If you feel this is the case, please let us know and we will make sure we allocate a longer appointment time for you.

To further improve our service to you in these current times, we are also in the process of adding two extra workstations on our third floor to enable us to space out our clients, stylists and colourists to help with social distancing requirements.

In other salon news, our lovely stylist Sam will be leaving us; obviously we know her clients will be sad to hear this as she has been such a great person to have at Zeitgeist. Sam has another role as well as working with us, working in the NHS as an alternative therapist. She has been given the chance to do this full time and has decided to take this opportunity and I am sure you join us in wishing her well for the future. Sam always brought lots of interesting chat to the salon, a lovely calmness and an amazing cake when we did the Macmillan coffee morning! We know she won’t be a stranger as she now lives locally and I am sure you will see her again either as a fellow client or walking around the gorgeous area we live in. Sam as well as creating lots of lovely haircuts for you was often responsible for many lovely social media posts either with her knowledge of art or with the amazing photographs she took on her extensive walks.

Well, we obviously have all experienced lots of change over the last few months but in my house one of the most profound has been that Mark my partner, after a baking hiatus of 10 years popped on his apron, pre-heated the oven and made a cake and it was delicious!! So, I thought it would be great to share the recipe for this amazing vegan chocolate cake: https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/may/16/quick-and-easy-cake-and-cookie-recipes-lockdown-larder

Here’s a picture of Cissy while out on one of our walks, we found inspiration for her hair, from Frida Kahlo, using the wild dandelions. https://www.museofridakahlo.org.mx/en/the-blue-house/multimedia/

Stay safe everyone – Debbie and the Zeitgeist Team
